Arkansas Spring Snow Goose Hunts

More than 250 Snow geese in 4 hours! I’m very excited about the 2011 spring snow goose season in NE Arkansas. Wintering more and more snow geese every year, Arkansas is the best kept secret in Spring Snow Goose Hunting.

Once again we are going to be hunting prime areas in NE Arkansas. With access to over 10,000 acres of prime snow goose fields we averaged over 26 geese per spread per day in the 2010 Spring Snow Goose season. Our best day in the decoys last year was 97 snows. We also had a few other days near the century mark!

The Hunt

We will start the day out about an hour before sunrise, go over any last minute questions or concerns you may have, and get everyone set up and comfortable well before shooting time. With a little luck with the weather we will be hammering snows and blues around sunrise. There is no limit in Arkansas. We hunt until 1pm.

Dates for Arkansas Spring Hunts

We will begin snow goose hunting in Arkansas the moment the light goose conservation season opens, Monday January 31st 2011.Due to the Youth Waterfowl days on Feb. 5th and 6th, the snow goose conservation season will be closed both of those days. The snow geese begin their spring migration around February 1st with the peak (in Arkansas) generally between February 10th and February 20th. After that, the snow goose numbers decline, but the hunting is often better as most of these late flocks of snow geese will be the juvies - and man do they decoy. Our last day of spring snow goose hunts in Arkansas will be Sunday February 27, 2011..

South Dakota Spring Snow Goose Hunts

South Dakota - the bottleneck of the Spring Snow Goose migration. It is quite a sight to witness the millions of snow geese that migrate through eastern South Dakota. On a typical day the number of geese we will have over the decoys will number in the thousands. The spring light goose migration typically peaks between March 15 and March 25 in South Dakota. The best snow goose hunting will be at the peak to tail end of the migration when the juvies come through. In order to capitalize on the juvy flocks, daily scouting and relocating is essential. Every day my guides will be scouting and relocating the spread to give us the best potential chance to have flock after flock of snow geese pile in to the decoys. We may even relocate from morning to evening.

All of our South Dakota spring snow goose hunting will be done over decoys. We will be hunting all day, but we will typically take a 2-4 hour mid-day break depending on weather conditions and bird activity, and then we will hunt until sunset. We know what it takes to kill snow geese over decoys, day in and day out in South Dakota. There are no guarantees when it comes to chasing these 'white devils', but our guides will go above and beyond to ensure that you have an excellent hunt.
